Big Star - #1 Record
I got this soundtrack for the made-for-TV movie, Anna, while I was in Luzerne, Switzerland last spring. I listened to it for the first time today and it’s really fun. Anna Karina is SO charming in this. I wish I knew French well.
Serge Gainsbourg wrote all the music and it’s pretty cool. My favorite song is “Sous le soleil exactement” sung by Anna Karina. I wish I had mp3s of this album!
Today I got that My Bloody Valentine Before Loveless compilation and I’m very happy with it. I wish I had good MP3s of it, though.
Before Loveless is a limited LP pressing that compiles Strawberry Wine [1987], Ecstasy [1987], You Made Me Realise [1988] (pictured above), and Feed Me With Your Kiss [1988]. The compilation uses the album art from Feed Me With Your Kiss but I wish they would’ve used this one.
The Fall’s This Nation’s Saving Grace
Do the vocals in this album remind anyone else of James Murphy’s vocals in LCD Soundsystem’s self-titled debut?
HAPPY END’s self-titled debut, はっぴいえんど, is really great.
The other day I got a bunch of movies soundtracks from the library and today I listened to the Lost in Translation soundtrack which has a lot of Kevin Shields and My Bloody Valentine. It also had a song called “Kaze Wo Atsumete“ by a band called HAPPY END which I had never heard of.
I really liked the song so I did some research and decided to start out with their first album and then if I really liked it I’d go onto the second one (Kazemachi Roman is actually their more prolific album). Anyway, I really like it!
